Art Deco 1.02 CTW Champagne Diamond and Sapphire Hexagon Engagement Ring with Etched Shank

Art Deco 1.02 CTW Champagne Diamond and Sapphire Hexagon Engagement Ring with Etched Shank

Extraordinary in design, this unique engagement ring boasts a champagne diamond center stone encircled by six bright round cut diamonds and six square cut sapphires. Though hexagonal rings grew in popularity between 1915 and 1930, they are still considerably rare finds nowadays; especially rare are hexagons oriented with their points set to the cardinal directions, and hexagon rings that are not designed within a raised filigree carriage. These facts indicate that the artful conception of this piece is both unparalleled and incredibly singular.

The center diamond is interesting in that it is professionally classified as very light brown, though its romantic haze casts a warm gray tone in certain lights, honey colored in some, and champagne in others. The stone’s coloring sets it apart from both its bright white and brown diamond counterparts, and is offset by its halo of white diamond and blue sapphire accents that beam around it. The center stone is set with six prongs, while the smaller diamonds are each meticulously inset within milgrain-punctured bezels. The sapphires each share a prong of the center stone, their edges left unencumbered in order to emphasize their angularity against the round bezels of their diamond neighbors.

The center stone bears slight inclusions, but is largely eye clean with glorious rainbow refractions. The smaller diamonds are brighter, their imperfections invisible to the naked eye. The sapphires are all also eye clean, with bold, deep faceting that causes them to be considered square baguettes rather than princess cuts. They bear an indigo blue coloring that is colorful in contrast to the whiter diamonds and the warmth of the feature stone.

The ring’s carriage is very shallow and does not rise much from the finger when worn, making it very wearable and easy to stack. The hexagonal sides are crisp giving the ring geometric shape that has not been worn by time. The entire shank of the ring is hand-etched with vertical incisions lining the top and bottom circumferences, which sandwich a center band decorated with an incised zig zag pattern. This detailing completes the piece, making it altogether sharp, bold, classic and unique. Pair this ring with any band you please for a bridal pairing unlike any other, or gift for a birthday, anniversary or as a promise ring.
