Art Deco 14K White Gold .57 CTW Diamond and .24 CTW Sapphire Filigree Engagement Ring

Art Deco 14K White Gold .57 CTW Diamond and .24 CTW Sapphire Filigree Engagement Ring

Made in the 1920s, this domed filigree engagement ring is made of the brightest white gold. In comparison with other white golds that have a warm undertone, this ring’s metal is luminously crisp. The filigree work is clean and retains its very fine detailing and neat edges. The filigree is an orange blossom design that resembles the webbing of lacework. The shoulders and upper half of the shank is reticulated, each side boasting four small five-petaled orange blossom flowers with precisely etched centers and petals. Where the shoulders meet the shank, the open filigree transforms into finely etched swirls. Virtually, the only part of this ring that is left plain is the tapered bottom of the shank, ensuring that this ring stuns from all angles.

The center diamond is well over half a carat, and is of equal brightness to the color of its white gold setting, and is set with four corner prongs that accentuate the stone without the fuss of an illusionary style. These prongs are thoughtfully designed and are etched with line-work that is visible from all profiles of the ring. Despite its slightly included clarity, this center diamond is absolutely eye-clean, highly reflective, truly white in color, and features a deep pavilion and very thick girdle.

The diamond is offset vertically by two sunrise designs that are not etched in solid gold rather than open filigree, a clever concept to stabilize the weight of the diamond. Horizontally, the stone is flanked by two bezel-set trillion-cut French sapphires that are very deep in color and are original to the ring. Oftentimes, Art Deco rings were accented with colored simulated gemstones because they were a cheaper, and sometimes more durable, option to genuine stones. This ring, however, has genuine natural stones, adding quality and value to the piece.
