Art Deco 18K White Gold 2.10 DWT Old European Cut Diamond Ring

Art Deco 18K White Gold 2.10 DWT Old European Cut Diamond Ring

Produced during the height of the Art Deco movement, this trilogy diamond ring is an embodiment of the exquisite dichotomy of florals and geometry for which the period is most famous. This ring may be described as a dome ring, with a dramatic round profile off of the finger, inset with three Old European Cut diamonds, which are visually distinct in their large facets, presence of culets and their relatively small tables, giving an overall appearance of a rounder cut stone. OEC diamonds are also gemologically notable in that they are each cut and positioned by hand by master craftsmen.

This piece’s three OEC diamonds grace the facade of the ring, each singular in its precise shape and coloring, adding incredible charm to the ring and setting it apart from other Deco counterparts. The center stone claims the roundest contour of the bunch, and catches the light with intense brilliance. One side stone is classified as near colorless, offsetting the other side stone classified as champagne, a property given to diamonds with a higher nitrogen content. Each of these three diamonds is inset within a dainty raised setting, the side diamonds’ settings somewhat square.

Complementing the diamonds are two synthetic sapphire stones, cut in a French fashion and bezel-set, and evidencing wear that is due to age, visible on the interior of the ring. Synthetics were far more popular during this era than genuine gemstones, as one could achieve the desirable colors and durability-- sometimes greater-- of gems without the gemstone price-tag, and admirers of the jewels would be none the wiser. Diamond rings from the 1920s and 1930s were commonly adorned with synthetic stones, primarily sapphires, emeralds and rubies. Such a characteristic was so prevalent that, generally, it does not detract from the value of OEC Art Deco diamond rings.

The domed white gold setting in which all five stones are set is comprised of 18k, a high purity level that is extremely rare for new jewelry. It is richer and rarer, yet was not uncommon for Deco pieces. The design of the filigree bold, with delicate swirls that allude to fleur-de-lis and floral shapes. Sharp angles balance the movement of the pattern, further emphasizing the daring geometric forms of the piece. This ring is a shining example of Art Deco jewelry, sits proud on the finger, is bright and sparkles dramatically in low and high light alike, and is sure to make a statement on any occasion.
