Art Deco 3 DWT 18k White Gold Diamond and Emerald Navette Ring

Art Deco 3 DWT 18k White Gold Diamond and Emerald Navette Ring

Exquisitely ornate with intricate filigree and hand-engraved detailing, this Art Deco navette style ring features five natural diamonds and twelve emerald stones. The face and mountings of this ring are made of 18k white gold atop a 14k white gold shank. It is oriented vertically, as was the popular style during the late teens through the early 1930s, a shape that is emphasized by its diamond arrangement: The top and bottom diamonds are each set by a trio of prongs within a semi-almond shaped milgrain bezel-like setting, and encircled by channel-set by six emerald baguettes that are cinched by a dotted fleur-de-lis at the point. The central diamond at the heart of this ring is set with four prongs in a square milgrain mounting that is flanked on both sides by a five-prong set diamond fit within a fleur-de-lis shaped setting.

The filigree that comprises this ring is reticulated with very clean edges and very complex engravings. With wear and use, rings of such scrupulous design often become worn, the precision lost to time. Yet, this ring has seemed to evade the natural weathering of well-loved jewelry, and retains the exactitude of design with which it was first masterfully created: the symmetrical carriage bears four orange blossoms, each contoured with baroque swirls, triangular and fleur-de-lis forms are patterned throughout, and the shoulders are engraved with wheat-like sequences. The orange blossom is symbolic for innocence, the swirls for connectivity, the triangles for harmony, the fleur-de-lis for purity, and the wheat for abundance. These symbols suggest that this ring was likely intended as an engagement ring, rich in well wishes and romance.

While many Deco-era rings boast gemstones alongside diamonds as well as heavy filigree, this ring is unique in its near mint condition, clarity of detail and brightness of stones, and its meticulous design and its significance. No photograph can accurately display just how brilliant are its five diamonds, or how richly hued are its twelve emerald stones. This ring is quite the treasure, would make a dramatic right-hand ring or cocktail accessory, and is ideal for a stunning engagement ring that is sure to sweep your beau off her feet.
