Late Art Deco 14k Gold .24 CTW Double Diamond Ring

Late Art Deco 14k Gold .24 CTW Double Diamond Ring

Made in the early 1940s at the closing of the Art Deco movement, this two tone ring boasts a pairing of incredibly sparkly diamonds. One stone is a 3.10 mm Old European Cut diamond and the companion stone is a 3.20 mm Round Brilliant Cut diamond, both set within square prong settings made of 14k white gold. The OEC stone is older than the other, its desirable round culet visible at its center, and a tiny chip on its edge that is invisible to the naked eye and only visible at 60x magnification. The pricing reflects this imperfection. The shank of this ring is 14k yellow gold, and is marked as such on its interior. Also marked is the maker’s script hallmark, worn by time, leaving only its first letter ‘S’ clearly visible.

This style ring is a variation of one that grew to popularity after Napoleon proposed with a double-stone ring to Josephine in the 1790s. The style was, thus, referred to as “Toi et Moi” which translates from French to “You and Me”, and was considered the ultimate romantic design. By the beginning of the Art Deco period, more modern adaptations of the two-stone ring were made, this ring being a primary example. Its scale is sweet and minimal without compromising radiance. The boxiness of the prong setting accentuates the visual presence of the diamonds, and add a kiss of Deco composition.
